PNRR and ecological transition: what the energy industry really needs

By Beniamino Paradiso, CEO EnGen Company, Florence, Italy

I am following with great attention and interest the debate about the energy transition and the programming of the Italian PNRR.

Founding Engen Company, a company active in renewables in Italy, I moved back to our Country after more than twenty years of international experience in the energy sector.

EnGen contributes to the construction of a fully functioning circular economy with the reduction of energy waste and zero pollution. To do this, it offers services that increase the amount of green energy in the European energy mix and improve efficiency in its use.

I believe that achieving the ambitious renewable energy targets underlying the PNRR will only be possible if administrative process allows energy players to have fast and certain time for developing their projects. Those projects need to be fully compliant with environmental assessment rules and regulation. But when they are, there should be NO delay or lengthy process stopping Italy from becoming a renewables powerhouse.

This time around there is no shortage of resources: solar irradiation, wind and hydro are a key strength of this Country. 58Billion Euro in the energy transition plan are linked to this.

Can we really leave this up to the good will of local administrators?

We all need rules’ simplification and an executive plan at Government level on how to reach targets of MW installed. And we need it now.
